Q. Why should I consider having a whiter smile?
A. Studies have shown that not only do people who have whiter teeth look younger than people who don't, but that there is a correlation between high self-esteem and a white, confident smile. In addition to the aesthetic reasons.
Q. Is teeth whitening safe?
A. Yes. Clinical studies proved that peroxide based teeth whitening system is safe and effective. Q. What causes tooth discoloration?
A. There are many reasons. Aging and the ongoing ingestion of coffee, tea, cola, red wine and tobacco products can lead to the staining of teeth. Tetracycline and excessive fluoride can cause discoloration as well.
Q. Are there any adverse side effects?
A. Very few. A small percentage of people may experience some sensitivity. Our treatment takes less than 30 minutes and we use a special gel so most people do not have any sensitivity.
Q. How long will the results last?
A. Individual results will vary depending on the consumer's habits and their unique dental make-up, but it is safe to say that the initial results will last the average consumer up to one year. Over time, and for the very same reasons that caused teeth to discolor in the first place, the consumer will notice their teeth darkening again. When this happens, your client can simply repeat their salon or spa procedure and the teeth will be restored back to their brilliant white color.
Consumers who smoke cigarettes or drink heavy quantities of dark, acidic liquids like; coffee, tea, red wine, colas, etc. will have to touch up their teeth more often than people who do not.
Q. What are the main components of teeth whitening?
A. The three main components of teeth whitening are:
Light: The spectrum of the LED light (light emitting diode) accelerates the whitening process making it less than 30 minutes self-administered procedure instead of a two week at home treatment.
Pressure: Salon Smiles accomplishes this action with pressure pad that forms to the shape of your teeth. Carbamide peroxide is placed in the pre-shaped tray allowing the gel to stay directly on your teeth for guaranteed results.
Exposure: The longer you expose your teeth to a combination of peroxide, light, heat and pressure the whiter your teeth will get - to a point. The Carbamide Peroxide will eventually break down into water. It "wears out" rather quickly, and the more light and heat it is exposed to, the faster it wears out. Therefore, balance is created between repetition of applications and exposure time.
Q. Will fillings and crowns be affected by the whitening?
A. While peroxide will have no negative effect on the integrity of fillings and crowns, the simple fact is that these materials will not whiten in any type of bleach procedure.
Q. Is whitening for everyone?
A. Pregnant and nursing mothers, children under the age of 14 and diabetics should consult their physician prior to undergoing any whitening procedure. Consumers with severely tetracycline stained teeth may opt for more aggressive cosmetic procedure like bonding and veneers.
